A New Look and a New Direction
The XDA Portal has a new face and a new vision
It's not easy being another news site in a sea of mobile information. Over the years, the XDA Portal has experimented with varying formats as it has strived to stand out and deliver articles worthy of the quality development and technical discussion happening in the forums. Sometimes we get it right, other times not so much. Over the past couple of weeks, we've laid the groundwork for our updated vision of what we want to be, but this is much more than just another attempt.
"We want to build the Portal you want to read"
The design is functional and sleek. It gives our writers more flexibility to create content that's easy on the eyes. Tastes great and less filling. And with the new look comes a new vision for the XDA Portal
Our best content happens to be that which aligns with the community's desire for deep analysis, debate, and opinion. True original content at its best. Because of this, we want the site to focus on the kinds of features that you want to see: in-depth comparisons, on-point editorials, thought-pieces on the current and future state of mobility, and a new breed of technical review. These features will be front and center every day and every week going forward. Some of our recent pieces hopefully show off the new direction:
We hope all of this excites you as much as it excites us. We have been coordinating this new direction for months, and we believe we can provide the XDA community with valuable content that is fun, interesting, and educational. We are bringing back old writers such as Tomek Kondrat, and an entire slate of new writers.
We debated internally for a long time whether or not to write this post. Always better to show rather than tell. But we thought it was important to set your expectations, so we will be driven to hold ourselves to these standards.
Also, we wouldn't mind your help. First, we encourage you to participate in the portal comments and the daily discussions. If you want to go even further, we hope you'll consider joining the team, helping to set XDA's new direction. We are open for applications.
The transition might be bumpy, but we're committed. Constructive feedback is important, so feel free to contact myself or any of our writers to let us know what you think!
