Let's Take A Look At All Of The Galaxy S6 Teasers Samsung Has Published Thus Far

Samsung loves hype, and it's that time of year for a flagship launch. We don't always report on teasers, because they so often don't give us much information. Still, we can put the many teasers for Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S6 together and get something worthwhile out of it.

Samsung has given several signals that they are going to be very proud of the camera in the S6. A leak from several months ago suggested the shooter on the back of the S6 would be either 16MP or 20MP, they weren't sure. Let's take a look at the teasers for more insight.

Then, we have this enigmatic clip from the same day:

More telling is some of the content Samsung has been posting on their official blog. First, they posted an infographic about the development of cameras in Samsung phones. The obvious assumption to make is that they will have something else to boast about with their next flagship. Then, there is an article about "the future of cameras" in Samsung phones. It stresses their mission to make a separate camera unnecessary and to have pictures look realistic. There is also this table:

Do you think they want any of the numbers under Galaxy S6 to get smaller, or even stay the same? Following a discussion of the importance of front-facing cameras (hint!), there's this:

While earlier front-facing cameras were regarded as an “extra”, superfluous to the “main” camera on the rear, this is clearly no longer the case anymore.

We meticulously evaluate every single facet of our smartphone cameras by taking over 10,000 photos in every imaginable lighting environment for analysis. The same passion and dedication has been put into building the cameras for the release of our 2015 flagship model. It will be intelligent and do all the thinking for users, allowing them to take amazing pictures under any conditions, without having to worry about anything more than just pressing the shutter button.

From all of this, I would conclude that the headline features of the Galaxy S6 camera will include a powerful front shooter. Likewise, thinking back to the "under any conditions" claim and "find clarity in darkness" teaser, it will also likely boast improved performance in low lighting. This might mean that there are no additional megapixels on the back-facing camera, but possibly a bigger sensor or just software-side changes.

Samsung has also done a few things to allude to how the S6 will be designed and built.

I’m not just inspired by what I see, I am crafted from what I see. I am #TheNextGalaxy. http://ift.tt/1CVXHRu

This one is a little less clear, but what is obvious is that they want you to be thinking about the build materials. Luckily, today, they dropped us a much more helpful nugget of information in this promo video:

Let me highlight a couple of intriguing quotes:

metals will flow

Okay, you probably don't need my help here. Will this be a metal flagship, at last?

borders will disappear

This could mean several things. Maybe, the S6 will have a unibody design, which would be a first. Or, it won't have the squared off edges. Speaking of, this might merely be an allusion to the rumored curved-edge variant of the upcoming S6. We're definitely going to see some metal in the S6, but the rest for now is just a tease.

Other stuff

The next tidbits from the aforementioned video concern (possibly) the display.

reflections will be free

A screen that looks good in the sunlight? Count me in. Either that, or the quote above is simply interesting nonsense.

colors will live

Okay, that one's not so interesting. Samsung does make great displays, though, so they are allowed to brag in their weird videos. Excitement over the display may also be one of the things they are trying to get at in this video, already posted in the camera section. Do recall that this could be the first QHD display in a Samsung flagship, as has been rumored.

Another recent posting to Samsung's official blog is about wireless charging. They boast of their role in improving wireless charging technology over the years and their desire to keep bringing it forward. Bear in mind that you had to buy a separate battery cover for the S5 to charge it wirelessly. Still, the article ends with this quote:

Samsung will accelerate to democratize this wireless charging technology with compelling smartphones. With our upcoming Galaxy smartphones, users will be able to enter a new wireless world like never before.

We're expecting the formal announcement with all the gory details on March 1st at Mobile World Congress.
