[CES2015] Mad Catz announces their new F.R.E.Q.9 wireless surround sound headset for gaming

Published on Monday, 05 January 2015 15:04

Mad Catz has officially announced their newest headset for gamers of all platforms called the F.R.E.Q.9. This new wireless headset features surround sound, noise cancelling, and a built-in mic which is something you mobile game streamers might be interested in.

The F.R.E.Q.9 doesn't stray too far from Mad Catz's usual extreme styling that all of their peripherals tend to have. Since these are wireless, you will be connecting to your Android device of choice through Bluetooth. This new headset features premium 50mm Neodymium drivers, an invisible mic, and wireless aptX Audio technology which basically means that there isn't any lag when listening to your gameplay through the headset even though it is wireless.

Even though this is a wireless headset, the F.R.E.Q.9 also comes with an adapter box, 3.5mm jack, and 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable in case you want to hardline them instead. The surround sound is done with the use of AM3D's Zirene Surround Sound and the 50mm Neodymium drivers. Noise Cancelling is brought to the headset through Soundchip's Digital Active Noise Cancellation (D-ANC). The mic set-up is interesting as the F.R.E.Q.9 uses two mics to monitor outside noise as well as two mics to monitor audio inside the earcups to optimize pass-through of voice frequencies, all of which are built into the headset so you don't actually see any mics at all.

For those of you interested in scoring a F.R.E.Q.9 headset, pre-order are now available and will begin shipping out later this month. Price-wise you are looking at a cool $299 for a pair of these.
