Google Now gains Nest Learning Thermostat integration, including voice controls
If you’ve got a Nest Learning Thermostat, then you’ll be pleased to hear that it’s now even easier to control your Nest with your phone.
Google announced today that its updated both its Android and iOS apps to add Nest integration. The feature allows Android users to control their Nest by saying the “Ok Google” hot word and then giving a temperature request, like “Set the temperature to 74 degrees.”
In addition to the voice control feature, the Google Now-Nest integration will enable your thermostat to prepare your home when it senses that you’re near. Once Google and your Nest decide that you’re close, the thermostat will pre-heat or cool your home so that it’s comfortable when you arrive.
One of the big draws of the Nest has been the ability to control it with your phone using the Nest app. The integration with Google Now takes that one step further, though, by adding controls into an app that you may frequently open anyway.
If you’ve got a Nest and want to give Google Now voice controls a try for yourself, head over to the Works with Nest website and begin the authorization process.
