Google and Verizon sign patent agreement

Android is a wonderful mobile operating system, but with it has come a lot of litigation. Plenty of companies have sued Android manufacturers for infringement, including a few patent trolls that just exist to buy patents and use them in court. To combat this, Google purchased Motorola and kept its patent portfolio before selling it off.

On top of that, the company has made deals with many companies to band together to fight litigation. With the combination of Google’s massive patent portfolio and the patents of many other companies, patent trolls have a far smaller chance of causing damage. And the latest company to enter this deal is Verizon. Now in the case of litigation, both companies will benefit.

It’s a shame that deals like this have to be made, but that’s the nature of the business. It’s good to see companies band together to fight it instead of fighting each other though, as they have the same interests in this case.
