Velocity is Like OpenTable on Steroids

Velocity

We all enjoy a night out with friends or our significant other from time to time. However, there is always that one painful step of agreeing on deciding where to go–and this only gets worse with more people in your group. Once a decision is reached, then comes hurdle number two: getting there and hoping they have tables available. Luckily, most restaurants in this day and age will allow you to book a table either by calling or by means of an app called OpenTable, which in essence is an online booking system. Conceptually, the app is great and it saves you a lot of hassle in having to look for contact information, but the app in itself is quite limited in terms of functionality. What if you could do a mash up between OpenTable, Google Wallet, Tip Calculator, and a point reward system (pick whichever fits you better)? If you cannot begin to picture this, then XDA Forum Member arjs1000 has an interesting app for all you socialites out there.

Velocity is an app that grabs the aforementioned concept of OpenTable and adds all the missing functionality that you always hoped to have at your fingertips while you are out, enjoying the world. The app offers the searching for and reservation capabilities that come with OpenTable, but it also offers the pay via device option that you would get from something like Google Wallet. This is where the app gets interesting, any restaurant offering the service will provide you with the convenience of seeing the check constantly updating itself as you enjoy your meal. This is a fantastic tool to control the order and making sure that nothing extra is added. This, of course, will save you from giving the waiter a surprised/angry look when you find that there is a champagne bottle in your bill that you did not order. The app also allows you to split the bill if you have a large party, right from your phone. No more awkward math in low candlelight. And needless to say, the app allows you to pay directly from your device with payments done by Braintree and secured by Paypal. This means, no more having to wait for the waiter for 20 minutes just to sign your credit card receipt.

Lastly, the service also offers a reward system for using it. Meaning, you will accumulate points for using the service which can later be redeemed for things like special events, discounts, and more. The app is currently limited to a very trendy restaurant in the UK called Nozomi, and once the pilot program is finished, it will be rolled out to other venues. Please take it for a spin and report any bugs you may find.

Velocity is a new app that allows you to discover, reserve, and pay without waiting at the world’s best restaurants, bars and clubs.
