Unreleased Google Glass XE17.3 Factory Image, OTA, and Pre-Rooted Boot Image Now Available

product_10

Two weeks ago today, Google Glass users were greeted with a bugfix update to XE17.2 that brought much better low power handling when extremely low on juice. This followed up on the XE17.1 update, which brought much better integration with Google Maps on Android, so long as the recently updated MyGlass 3.0.0 app was used. Now, another Glass update has been discovered in our forums.

Today’s update comes in at firmware version XE17.3. And despite the lack of release notes or a formal announcement, it has been captured and shared with the community right here in our Google Glass forums. Naturally, it’s hard to identify the changes without a formal changelog or release notes, but so far users have noticed a new experimental “Notification Glance” feature. This feature makes it much more convenient to access incoming notifications because now when a notification is received, you simply have to turn your eyes (rather than your entire head) to the screen in order to turn on the screen and view the notification.

As stated above, the update has not yet even been announced, so naturally it hasn’t started rolling out either. However, that never stopped us before. The update was first shared yesterday afternoon by XDA WiKi Maintainer and Recognized Contributor TheManii, who posted the incremental OTA update for everyone’s ADB Sideloading pleasure. And less than one day later, XDA Forum Member hedsick found and shared the update’s factory image and pre-rooted kernel image.

If you’re a Glass owner tired of whipping your hair back and forth to view incoming notifications, today’s your lucky day. Head over to the links above in TheManii’s stock firmware thread to get started.
