Sony beats even Motorola to pushing Android 4.4.4

Usually, Motorola is the quickest with Android updates. With the 4.4 KitKat, 4.4.2 and even 4.4.3 updates, Motorola was the first to upgrade its devices — aside from Google, that is. Motorola hasn’t pushed any Android 4.4.4 updates yet, though, and now it’s been beaten to the punch by Sony.

The Sony Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra are all getting the Android 4.4.4 update in Europe. Android 4.4.4 brings almost nothing to the table over 4.4.3 or 4.4.2, as both were mostly bug-fixing updates. However, there are plenty of bug fixes and security fixes to be found, and Sony has improved its camera experience and updated some stock Sony apps as well.

We’ve long known that Sony is pretty good with updates, and even though it can sometimes be a little late, the number of devices it updates is usually staggering. It’s good to see such a fast response to an Android release from yet another manufacturer. If you own one of these Sony devices and you’re in Europe, check for updates. And for those in other regions, you probably won’t have to wait too long for your own Android 4.4.4 update.
