June Android distribution numbers show KitKat growth
It’s the start of another month which means that it’s time to take a look at the latest Android distribution numbers. In the past few months, we’ve seen adoption of KitKat and Jelly Bean continue to grow, while past versions of Android, such as Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich, have shrunk. This month’s numbers continue the trend with KitKat showing major growth.
KitKat rose 5.1% from 8.5% to this month’s 13.6%, which is quite the rise. Jelly Bean still claims the top spot with versions 4.1-4.3 taking up 58.4% of the pie, a drop from last month’s 60.8%. Ice Cream Sandwich dropped from 13.4% to 12.3%, continuing a trend we’ve seen in past months. Take a look at the chart below for a representative pie graph.
Gingerbread is still holding onto 14.9% of the market, although that’s down from 16.2% in May. We were glad to see that the last .1% still on Honeycomb finally fell off the map. Nonetheless, Froyo is clinging on with .8%, a figure that makes us quite sad.
While some older versions of Android are still in the market, it’s good to see that the numbers are shrinking and it was very pleasant to see that KitKat rose a full 5% in just a month. Though with all the updates being released, we shouldn’t be too surprised. Be sure to check back next month for the latest figures.
Which version of Android are you running?
