Huawei announces the Ascend Mate2 4G for the US market, only $299

Huawei is entering the US market strong, and the first device the company will be selling here is the newly announce Ascend Mate2 4G. It’s a very large unlocked device that will be sold through the new Huawei site, GetHuawei.com.

This new site is the start of a new business strategy for Huawei that’ll see it offer well priced smartphones to the US through a one-stop site. There will be unlocked devices for sale, a community forum and premium customer service. The customer service will be local, which is a fantastic idea to help grow consumer loyalty.

The Ascend Mate2 4G packs some pretty impressive mid-range specs for the price. It has a 6.1-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280×720, a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of memory with a microSD card, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera, Android 4.3 and a beefy 3,900mAh lithium polymer battery.

While the specs aren’t amazing, Huawei didn’t skimp on the Mate2 4G’s battery, calling it “the weekend battery” because of the fantastic battery life it provides. It is even rated for 100+ hours of music playback on a single charge. It’s so big, Huawei even included reverse charging, a feature that allows you to charge other devices with the Ascend Mate2 4G’s battery.

Other Ascend Mate2 4G features include a 79/21 ratio of screen to bezel, dual-mic DTS sound, support for Cat.4 LTE and of course, support for LTE on any GSM carrier in the US. And you can get all of that at a price under $300. It’s a pretty impressive device, so stay tuned for a first impressions and a review! And if you have any questions, leave them in the comments.
