Dev edition and unlocked models of HTC One (M8) updated with Extreme Power Saving Mode

The HTC One (M8) was set to come with a software feature called Extreme Power Saving Mode, but it didn’t make it to devices at the time of launch. Luckily, HTC is releasing the feature through an update, which should eventually come to all versions of the device. But first up to get the update are the developer edition and unlocked models of the HTC One.

This update won’t change the Android version, but it’s still a fairly large 117.98MB in size. The biggest change is that it adds Extreme Power Saving Mode, which unlike the standard power saving mode, will go to greater lengths to preserve battery life. It also added a shortcut to the feature in the quick settings toggles. There are also “camera and gallery feature enhancements,” though those aren’t expanded upon.

If you own one of these devices, head to Settings > About to check for updates, or wait for the notification to come to you. If you don’t get it immediately, you may have to wait a little while until it rolls out to you. Leave a comment when you receive the update!
