Convert Your HTC One M8 into a Harman/Kardon Edition

When the flagship HTC One (M8) launched about a month ago, many wondered what would take the place of its predecessor’s Beats Audio. While the M8 itself didn’t have any such a feature, HTC and US carrier Sprint later released the Harman/Kardon edition of the M8. Not differing in hardware, the M8 Harman/Kardon edition uses special software to “restore” lost frequencies due to compressed and streaming audio.

Given that the M8 and the M8 Harman/Kardon edition do not differ in hardware, it was only a matter of time before the latter’s audio goodies were ported to the former. And now thanks to XDA Recognized Developer baadnewz, users of any variant of the M8 can enjoy all of the benefits of the Harman/Kardon edition’s tweaked software.

The modification works on all variants the M8. But if you own a GPe device and wish to install this mod, you must first install a Sense-based ROM. The modification obviously requires root access, as it is flashed through a custom recovery. And if you have S-Off, a special version of the modification also updates your ADSP firmware. This is useful in the event that you lose audio after flashing the standard firmware.

If you’re an M8 owner who’s been lusting after the Harman/Kardon edition, head over to the conversion thread and enjoy the benefits on your existing device.

[Many thanks once again to XDA Portal Supporter Titokhan for the tip!]
