Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet US release set for May 4th

Robert Nelson

Sony announced the Xperia Z2 Tablet during Mobile World Congress. And while we knew the device would be rolling out on a global basis, Sony was quiet in terms of release date and pricing details for the US release. Well, flash forward till today and we now have confirmation on both -- the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet will be available in the US beginning on May 4th.

The Xperia Z2 Tablet will be available with 16GB or 32GB or internal storage space. The 16GB model will be $499.99 and the 32GB model will be $599.99. The tablet will be available in black or white (at 16GB), however those looking to the 32GB model will only have one color available -- white.

Specs for the tablet include a 10.1-inch Full HD display, quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 6000 mAh battery. There will also be an 8MP rear-facing camera with Exmor RS. And as we have begun to expect with Sony devices, the Xperia Z2 Tablet has an IP rating of 55/58. Simply put, the Xperia Z2 Tablet is waterproof and dust proof "provided that all ports and covers are firmly closed."

The tablet will be running Android 4.4 Kit Kat and otherwise, it is also on the thin side measuring in at just 6.4mm. While we still want to spend more quality time with the tablet once it comes available, we did manage to get a bit of hands-on time during our time in Barcelona and were initially impressed.
