Moto Maker could gain leather back option in 2014, leak suggests

Motorola has already expanded its Moto Maker customization options a couple of times, first adding wood finishes and then giving consumers more color choices with the College Collection. So what might the big M have planned next for Moto Maker? Today we may have found that out.

Earlier today, prolific leakster @evleaks sent out a message that reads “2013:wood::2014:leather,” which reads as “2013 is to wood as 2014 is to leather.” Unfortunately, there’s nothing else to help us decipher what the tweet is referring to. Once you remember that Motorola offered bamboo backs as an option in Moto Maker in 2013, though, it seems plausible that the message could be hinting that a leather option will be available in Moto Maker in 2014.

While this is still very much unconfirmed, a leather back option is certainly one way that Motorola could improve Moto Maker. It’s already got multiple color options and even some wooden covers. Offering leather backs would be a way for Motorola to add an entirely new texture option to Moto Maker, and as Samsung has shown with the Note 3, a leather backside on a phone can turn out nicely.

What do you all make of this rumor? Would you buy the Moto X or its successor with a leather back?
