Flyme-Laden KitKat Test Build Lands on the Meizu MX3

When the original Meizu MX first came out, many were intrigued by the relatively high end hardware from a then unheard of OEM. Now several years later, Meizu has become a common name in the Android world—perhaps not so much here in the US, but certainly abroad. Two generations of flagships later, we now have the MX3, which features the same level of great specs that we’ve grown to expect from the Chinese OEM.

But while the MX3 packs some great hardware thanks to its Exynos 5 Octa 5410 processor and 2 GB of RAM, it comes preloaded with their custom Flyme OS. And love it or hate it, heavy OEM skinning inevitably causes firmware update delays. Now, however, a preview build of KitKat has arrived for the MX3, and it can be sideloaded onto any MX3 device.

Coming in at software version 3.6.1A, this test firmware is highly functional. It includes support for all that you’d come to expect in a KitKat update such as smoother performance. Furthermore, it also includes support for ART, although you must first enable developer settings by entering a dialer key combination (*#*#6961#*#*).
