Konami has followed the release of their Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes mini-game with a sneaky release of a companion app along with it. In case you are wondering why we have called this game a 'mini-game', it is simply because it is just a short (but pretty challenging at times) game to tide folks over till the next installment into the franchise hits everyone's consoles in 2015 (or 2016 depending on how development goes).
So what does this new companion app come with? Well you can expect to find a majority of the features found in other companion apps such as current news being readily available. This is accessed through the 'DATA PORTAL' which will have all the latest information on MGSV:GZ. However there are also some pretty unique features to this app that are themed around the game itself.
For starters you can actually use the app as a support screen while actually playing the game on your console of choice at the same time. This means you can display maps of the area you are currently sneaking around in and do other actions like call in helicopter support when needed. This is accomplished by linking your app to your game and using it as your character's iDroid.
There is also a Mother Base Mode which is basically a simulation game and you can use it on its own or synced up with the actual game, depending on how you want to play. You will be able to expand Mother Base while building your private army and dispatching troops to battlefields around the globe. You will also manage your forces and build your military strength. When synced to the game you can unlock special troops and weapons.
There are a few requirement for this application though. First your Android device will need to be running Android 4.0+. Secondly a lot of the features require an internet connection since syncing up with the console game is needed. Lastly some Xbox 360 features require the use of Microsoft's SmartGlass application. With that said, you can download the Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes companion app off of Google Play for free.
