Jcase and Beaups Root the Verizon HTC One 2014 (M8) and S-Off Last Year’s Verizon HTC One

Announced just last week, the HTC One M8 (2014) is nothing short of a knockout device. The new One improves upon its predecessor in practically every way imaginable. And barring its arguable camera capabilities, the M8 seems to have set the bar for the first half of 2014 with its combination of style, build quality, and performance.

Naturally, we quickly created a set of forums for US carrier variants of the device. And of course, this included the Verizon HTC One (M8). Now, XDA Senior Recognized Developer jcase and Recognized Developer beaups have rooted the device using an all-new exploit they call HTC WeakSauce. The exploit is a pre-packaged version of a vulnerability developed by jcase himself. Currently, this is only for obtaining root access, as neither jcase nor beaups own the Verizon M8 themselves. But once they get their hands on their own devices, they will begin work to hack further.

What about users of last year’s Verizon HTC One? Well, jcase and beaups have something for you as well. As it turns out, WeakSauce can be used to root last year’s Verizon HTC One as well. And once you’ve used WeakSauce, you can then use beaups’s Firewater to obtain S-Off.

If you want to get in on the action, head to the appropriate thread below:
