[New App] StumbleUpon's 5by Video Concierge App Picks What To Watch So You Don't Have To
The most difficult thing about watching video is figuring out what to actually watch. This was challenging back in the days of black and white television, and it only became more frustrating as the numbers of channels and media formats increased. Now we live in a world of high-speed internet, and interesting content can reside tucked away on any website anywhere in the world. StumbleUpon is offering a solution to this problem with its latest app, 5by, which dishes out videos from all over the web that are selected based on what you're into and what you're in the mood for.
Okay, StumbleUpon didn't create 5by, it purchased the start-up last September. But the app is now on Google Play, and the concept behind it isn't entirely different from the functionality that has made the company's discovery engine famous. 5by differs from StumbleUpon by searching exclusively for videos and creating playlists out of them so you don't have to. It seeks to learn your interests over time, but you can also manually tell it what you're interested in and provide how much idle time you have to fill. Then, ideally, all you need to do is lean back and watch your own personalized video stream.
However, these are early days for the service, and some users are claiming about issues with videos failing to play. I've also had this issue. But if you're curious, don't let that stop you from giving it a shot.
