AT&T Mobile Share customers will get free international texting, picture messaging

Going abroad while keeping your domestic carrier active is almost an insane thing to do. Unless you get a new plan, many carriers will charge you $20 per megabyte of data used, half a dollar per text and more. If you’re going to use your phone, expect a huge bill when you get back. Many people opt for buying a prepaid SIM from a local carrier, but why can’t our carriers provide for us when we’re out of the country?

As we all know by now, T-Mobile is leading the pack in this situation. The carrier offers unlimited texting and data to those abroad in many different countries, with cheap phone calls to boot. When it was announced, it was hard to believe. But now, it looks like AT&T is trying to finally help its customers out as well. Starting February 28, AT&T Mobile Share users will get free texting, picture messaging and video messaging internationally.

Unlimited texting will be available in 190 countries, while picture and video messaging will work in 120 countries. That’s a pretty good deal, especially because it won’t cost you anything extra. And to make it even better, AT&T has announced the World Connect ValueSM plan. For an extra $5 a month, you can get one-cent-a-minute calling to over 35 countries.

AT&T is pushing for better international plans, but international data remains absolutely ridiculous. It is one step closer to what T-Mobile offers, which is great. T-Mobile is pushing the entire industry into a more consumer-friendly direction, and we thank them. So will you take advantage of these new plans? Leave a comment!
