ASUS Nexus 7 docks offer wired and wireless charging

Juan Carlos Torres

Owners of 2013's Nexus 7 have just gotten another set of official accessories from ASUS. The PW100 Wireless Charging Station and the ASUS Dock for Nexus 7 give users a choice of orientations as well as some additional features to boot.

The wired ASUS Dock is designed firmly hold the Nexus 7 in place. That said, it can be set to both portrait and landscape modes, propping up the tablet at a viewable 60-degree angle. More than just a charging accessory, the dock is also capable of 1080p output via an HDMI cable connected to a TV.

Google already has an official wireless charging station, but its design is rather awkward for a tablet like the Nexus 7. The same 60-degree angle is used in this pyramid-shaped dock to keep the tablet in place but still usable at that angle. A built-in LED light indicates the current charging status. And since it uses the Qi Wireless standard, other devices supporting the standard can also use the PW100 station.

Compared to the Nexus 5 wireless charger, ASUS' version fetches a higher price of $89.99. The wired dock for the Nexus 7, on the other hand, is priced at $49.99. The docks aren't yet available everywhere but they can already be purchased from some retailers, including Amazon.
