Mig 2D: Retro Shooter!

Today's roundup is presented by Mig 2D: Retro Shooter from Herocraft. If you need to take a nostalgia trip at Mach 3, Mig 2D is more than happy to oblige. It's a top-down shooter in the grand tradition of 1942 and the like, complete with impressive sprite art, larger-than-life enemies, and bullets. Lots and lots of bullets. --

What would you do with an enormous flying machine armed to the teeth with a variety of deadly weapons? Bring peace and justice to the world of course. It's especially pleasing to bring peace with high-precision uranium core bombs or air to ground homing missiles.
Mig 2D has 20 levels of the most intense gameplay, offering you the chance not only to control a legendary fighter plane but to try some other, no less dangerous, war machines. You'll be opposed by legions of flying, floating, crawling and wheeled metal monsters both currently existing and fantasy designs. Mig 2D offers three of the strongest ‘bosses’ ever to challenge your abilities. Mig 2D is a flight you'll remember forever.

Line Of Defense Tactics

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Line Of Defense Tactics, A Real-Time Strategy Game Spawned From An MMO, Launches For Android And Other Platforms

OK, try and follow along here. Line of Defense started as a comic series that became an MMO and is now a real-time strategy game. The top-down tactics are reminiscent of Starcraft, naturally, but the story-based campaign has some impressive space action as well. Full 3D visuals and customizable units help to make each playthrough unique, and the interface looks surprisingly capable for the complex commands that you have to carry out. The first three missions are free, with a $5 IAP for the full game.

--

Command a team of four Galactic Command (GALCOM) marines in highly classified missions across space stations, starships and vast planetary battlefields. Based on the world of the Line Of Defense MMO, train your team, upgrade their stats, weapons, inventory and abilities to become the ultimate fighting force. Play missions 1-3 for free. Then purchase the full 16 mission campaign for $4.99.

The Room Two

Android Police coverage: [New Game] The Room Two Offers More Stunning And Fascinating Mysteries For Your Puzzling Pleasure

The first Room game (no relationship to Tommy Wiseau's The Room, stop with your cheesy quotes) was a surprise hit, mixing impressive production values with an incredible variety of physical puzzles. The sequel adds more of what you loved about the original: more puzzles, even better graphics, and a huge download size to match. This time you get cloud saves via Google Play Games, so you can continue your progress on another device.

--

Welcome to The Room Two, a physical puzzler, wrapped in a mystery game, inside a beautifully tactile 3D world. The much anticipated sequel to ‘The Room’, recipient of a BAFTA award, is here at last. Follow a trail of cryptic letters from an enigmatic scientist known only as "AS" into a compelling world of mystery and exploration. Easy to start, hard to put down, an entrancing mix of intriguing puzzles with a simple user interface

LEGO® City My City

Android Police coverage: [New Game] LEGO City My City Brings Seven Blocky Mini-Games Together In An Ad-Less, IAP-Free, Kid-Friendly Bundle

Lego City My City (what)?) is a collection of small mini-games specifically aimed at kids. But what we love about this and at least some other Lego mobile games is that they feature zero ads or in-app purchases, making them great for parents who want to let their kids play without fear of extra cost or unwanted pushes. The new My City game features full 3D graphics, matching the console games with surprising fidelity.

--

Bundled together in one app you can be the hero as you catch the escaped crooks in action packed car chases, or on foot in the park. Put out the fires in the city or steer the Coast Guard helicopter to rescue shipwrecked from the sharks. You can even be the fastest in the city by speeding across the finish line first in the slotracer game. If your car breaks down? No worries, just steer the tow truck through city traffic before it is too late.

Amateur Surgeon 3

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Adult Swim's Amateur Surgeon 3 Is A Perfect Example Of 'Don't Try This At Home'

The first two Amateur Surgeon games have made it to Android, but the ports have not been well-received. The third comes straight from the source, and preserves all of the gruesome backyard surgery of the originals. A staple gun is your surgical needle. A handheld vacuum is your suction catheter. You get the idea. In this zany sequel you tag-team with partner surgeons for power-ups, including an animated crash test dummy and a Frankenpug.

--

HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO OPERATE ON A MUTANT BEAR WITH A CHAINSAW? If so, then you are wasting time reading this when you could be playing “AMATEUR SURGEON: TAG-TEAM TRAUMA” and LIVING THAT DREAM. As rookie surgeon Ophelia Payne you must cut your way to the heart of a dark mystery while saving lives using your trusty pizza cutter, stapler, car battery - and host of other inappropriate tools.

Intern Saga: Trademark Lawyer

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Intern Saga: Trademark Lawyer Lets You Play The Assistant To Mobile Gaming's King Of Candy Attorneys

After the ridiculous copyright and trademark stories coming from Candy Crush Saga maker King, there have been more than a few games published just to stick it to them. Intern Saga is probably the most creative jab at King on the Play Store. You play an intern for a lawyer representing a litigious game developer. It's your job to find games in the app store that might possibly in some way probably not ever be confused with your client's titles, then give them the old C&D combo.

--

Play as a trademark lawyer's intern and take down games from the app store.

Features:
-Hilarious randomly generated app store.
-A deep and thought-provoking story
-Parody
-And much more.

Play to Cure: Genes In Space

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Play To Cure: Genes In Space Is A Game That Harnesses Your Brain Power To Help Analyze Real Cancer Data

Collaborative processing for medical research isn't a new idea, but this is the first time I've seen it applied straight to a game. In Play To Cure, the elements of the game are actually thinly-disguised repetitive processes - collecting the power-ups helps cancer researchers to find copy errors in DNA replication, one of the avenues for possible cancer cures. People are better at spotting these patterns than computers, so go forth in your mighty cartoon spaceship and do your good deed for the day.

--

Beating cancer through a space game never seemed possible. Until now. Every day, scientists across the globe are painstakingly analyzing the genetic faults in thousands of cancer samples. They are looking for clues that will help develop new cancer treatments. This game let’s you help. Play to Cure™: Genes in Space is a pioneering way of helping these scientists in their mission to beat cancer sooner and all via this world first mobile game.

Android Police coverage: DotEmu Releases R-Type 2 Port For Android, $1.99 For All The Late 80's Explosion Sprites You Can Handle

The original R-Type was released on Android some time ago, and it looks like DotEmu is slowly working its way through the catalog. More enemies, better graphics, and more nail-biting difficulty await you in R-Type II, which debuted in the arcades more than 24 years ago. As with most DotEmu games, the controls are tight, the price is reasonable, and there are no in-app purchases.

--

R-Type II is a horizontal scrolling shooter arcade game developed and published by Irem in 1989. This classic old-school game is the sequel to R-Type and the story takes place two years after. The player controls a ship called the R-9C which is an improved version of its predecessor, the R-9.
The Bydo Empire is back. Take it down with power-ups, two new types of weapons, the Search Laser and Shotgun Laser, and a new anti-ground unit bomb.

Avoid - Sensory Overload

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Avoid - Sensory Overload Is A Space Shooter And An Endless Runner In A Seizure-Inducing Disco Ball

Ever wonder what a space shooter would look like if you played it inside a Windows Media Center visualizer? Well wonder no more. Avoid - Sensory Overload (that's a title, not an instruction) practically vomits color and thumping beats, mixing old-school rail shooters and endless runners. The aesthetic is kind of like Sega's Rez, while the gameplay is more like Zaxxon. It's just too bad that an up-front price and in-app purchases will deter a lot of potential fans.

--

Avoid - Sensory Overload is a frenetic, fast and challenging arcade runner with an eye catching graphical style. It offers an addictive arcade gameplay in the spirit of old coin games. Your ship mission is to survive as long as possible dodging obstacles and enemies with the help of various power ups.
Play the game while the background follows the music like a sound wave visualizer. Every theme is unique from the style to the music and gameplay.

Colossus Escape

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Colossus Escape Is A Simple Platformer That Pits You Against The Gods

Here's a surprisingly stylish little endless runner. Your diminutive hero looks a lot like Brave Fencer Musashi, but he's running from a gigantic godlike monster, dashing and jumping on a platform that's constantly shifting from the footfalls of the beast. There are a few unique elements, including an active battle system that slows down time so you can chop through some of the nastier foes.

--

Colossus Escape is a fast-paced action game based on the world of Moffee Adventures™, featuring an epic fantasy world with great graphics and his own unique graphical style. Escape and defend against Colossus, face waves of enemies and avoid insidious obstacles. Turn the tide of battle with powerful spells and mystical artifacts, but watch out for the impending Colossus, hold on and gain ground collecting potions.

The Great Martian War

Android Police coverage: [New Game] The Great Martian War Is An Alternate History Endless Runner From The People Who Know Made Up History Best

Mix a little H.G. Wells and a polished 3D endless runner and you get The Great Martian War, a surprisingly ambitious title from The History Channel. Wait, what? Yes, the story in the game takes an "alternate history" angle, which before now I thought was restricted to the realm of the possible. You'll run and dodge through the wasteland avoiding aliens and the need for in-app purchases for resupply.

--

The Martians have invaded. Can you survive long enough to save Earth from extinction? It's 1913, and war is hell—especially when the enemy you must face are terrifying Martian warriors. You are Gus Lafonde, fearless scout and soldier—and you must survive. The future of the planet—along with every human being—depends on you. Navigate vast battlefields as you evade sneaky land mines, deafening artillery strikes, massive tanks, and towering Martian war machines.

Doomdark's Revenge

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Doomdark's Revenge Invades The Play Store Nearly Thirty Years After Its First Campaign

When it comes to old-school RPG video games, they don't get much older than Doomdark's Revenge. (Except for Lords of Midnight - it's the prequel.) The mobile re-release of this Commodore 64 title includes the classic gameplay, text-driven story, and an impressive lack of colors. There's no glitzy remake laced with IAP here - the only changes have been made for the purposes of formatting and control.

--

Mike Singleton's '85 classic Adventure Strategy sequel to The Lords of Midnight, brought to and updated for Android. "It is many moons now since the Lords of Midnight first appeared out of the soft, wearing gloom. Those of you who took up their challenge and rode with them to battle against the cruel Witchking will need no reminding of that epic struggle. But now a new epic tale unfolds, the story of Doomdark’s Revenge.

The King of Chicago

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Amiga Classic 'The King Of Chicago' Enters The Play Store In A 1930's Lincoln Filled With Hot Lead And Dirty Money

Mob City? Kid's stuff. Boardwalk Empire? Weak sauce. The real mobsters get their gangland kicks Amiga-style. This 80s adventure game tries to capture the feel of classic gangster movies, and generally succeeds, if you can get past the pixelated visuals and text-based story progression. It's got a new touch interface, but that's about it - even the aspect ratio hasn't been upgraded for modern hardware. You do get the original instruction manual, which should help navigate the sometimes obtuse adventure narrative.

--

The King of Chicago - Emulated Amiga Edition. Brought to you by Cinemaware® Chicago in the 1930s: Prohibition, power struggles and rampant crime. Only the toughest of the tough survive. Capone used to call the shots, but now he’s up the river and Chicago is up for grabs. Violence, intimidation, bribery, treachery, and clout are your weapons as you battle the legendary Capone mob for control of the windy city.

300: Seize Your Glory

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Warner Bros. Releases Official '300: Rise Of An Empire - Seize Your Glory' Action Game

Grammatically awkward titles aside, this tie-in for the upcoming 300 sequel looks pretty good, which is more than you can say for a lot of licensed mobile games. As you might expect from the source material, the gameplay is all about hacking and slashing your way through innumerable warriors. Full 3D visuals are nice, but you can expect a lot more blood than nuance. 300: Seize Your Glory also packs in 100% of your daily recommended allotment of loincloths.

--

Play 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE - SEIZE YOUR GLORY and help Greek general Themistokles unite all of Greece by stopping the invading forces led by Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy. 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE, A new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh - battlefield - on the sea - starring Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson & Rodrigo Santoro. In theaters March 7.

Shardlands

Despite a completely different perspective and atmosphere, Shardlands reminds me of Portal: it's an insanely polished puzzler that uses mechanics more often seen in action-oriented genres. You make your way across a day-glo environment by moving platforms and avoiding bad guys, using a mix of puzzle-solving skills and timing to get to the end of each level. The game looks amazing, and the 80s synth music really sets the mood. It's a free download with a single $3 IAP to unlock the full game.

--

Breathtaking journey into an alien world full of mysteries, challenging puzzles and big scary monsters. Shardlands is an atmospheric 3D action puzzle adventure game with breathtaking visuals, beautiful soundtrack and fluid gameplay. Dawn is lost in a desolate alien world trying to find her way back home. She must activate an ancient machine with keys that are scattered around a broken world full of puzzles, monsters and dangerous contraptions.

Buddy & Me

Buddy & Me is a basic endless runner with gorgeous 2D art and a clear inspiration from The Neverending Story. That should be just about all you need to give it a look, but it's also got some fantastic animation and sound. The action is split between running levels on foot and flying on Buddy the Luck Dragon. The game is pretty simple and doesn't look all that challenging, but bags and bags of personality will keep you coming back. Buddy & Me is just a buck with no in-app purchases.

--

Explore a world of dreams with Buddy, in this award-winning endless adventure about friendship. Every night, a young boy returns to the same dream to play with his magical best friend and floppy-eared companion, Buddy. With Buddy’s help, together they glide, jump, swing, bounce, and fly through a never-ending enchanted forest of treehouse-inspired obstacles, curious creatures, and natural wonders.

Solar Flux HD

Solar Flux is a pretty basic "zen" space shooter with some interesting mechanics. In addition to propulsion from Asteroids-style thrusters and environmental gravity a la Angry Birds Space, it lets you affect your own movement by shooting into tiny suns and riding the solar flairs. The gameplay itself is laid back, but the visuals are some of the best we've seen from a 2D game lately - check out those lighting effects. The HD version of Solar Flux is two bucks, but you can try the "Pocket" edition for free.

--

Travel across the universe to save dying suns from extinction in this unique and challenging space puzzle strategy game for tablet devices, where both problem solving and precise dexterity skills are needed to bring order to the cosmos. Supernovas, Asteroid Fields, Meteors and Black Holes are just some of the challenges you encounter as you sail your ship through the solar flares of imploding stars.

Brandnew Boy

What's this? An anime-style action-RPG with full 3D visuals and movement? Indeed, Brandnew Boy (which I suppose is a better title than "Cliché Amnesiac Anime Savior") seems like a surprisingly polished little brawler built on the Unreal engine, with enough energetic style to tide over the most ardent console gamer. Cell shaded visuals and a quick battle system, not to mention a fully-fleshed out story, make the game worth the $4 admission price... if you can stomach pushes for in-app purchases after that.

--

Rookie doesn’t know who he is, or how he got here, but one thing has been made terribly clear: he’ll have to fight to stay alive if he wants to find out. Brandnew Boy is heart-stopping, breath-taking 3D combat adventure built on Unreal Engine 3 for an unbelievable iOS action experience. Stranded this strange and sometimes beautiful place, “Rookie” finds he has limited time to contemplate his circumstances. The natives are bloodthirsty, and Rookie seems to be the only thing they think will quench that thirst.

HonorBound (RPG)

Action-RPG fans, your cup runneth over today. Honorbound takes a more mobile-focused approach than Brandnew Boy, with more conventional 2D fighting, standard upgrades, and monster battling (but with a mostly western feel). The 2D art is sharp and colorful, which is good, since it's all you're getting - there isn't much in the way of a story beyond clearing out lots of dungeons. Honorbound is free with in-app purchases.

--

Lead your army to victory. HonorBound is an epic FREE RPG. Choose your squad as you battle and collect 100’s of heroes. Challenge 1000’s of players in the Arena. Take control of the battle as your heroes come alive. Choose your style of play in the deepest game out there. Easy to pick up, impossible to master. Strategize on your squad's composition of classes and take tactical control of the battle with powerful abilities. Your heroes come beautifully to life on fully animating rigs.

Zombocalypse Now

Zombocalypse Now is the latest adventure book game from Tin Man, and it takes the road less traveled. Most of the previous entries have been fairly standard action or fantasy role playing adventures, but this one is more like a literary take on Ghostbusters. For reasons that aren't quite obvious, you play a sentient stuffed rabbit. Also, there are zombies. I don't know what they want to eat - stuffing, perhaps? - but it's a given that it won't end well for you. The game includes full-color illustrations and Tin Man's usual Choose Your Own Adventure play style.

--

They don't want your body, THEY WANT YOUR BRAINS. You're a stuffed bunny and it's the end of the world. When you slowly catch onto the fact that your latest date is in fact, the newest member of the living dead, there's only one thing to do - run. ...or, should you hang around a bit longer? After all, this is probably the best a date has gone for you in a while. This choice (along with many others) are entirely up to you...

Card City Nights

Ready for a card battle game that isn't trying to bankrupt you? Then Card City Nights should definitely be on your radar. The battle system is similar to Yu-Gi-Oh and the like, but the real draw is a whimsical story mode following a city that revolves around children's card games (but never on motorcycles). Best of all, and practically unique among Play Store card games, there are no in-app purchases.

--

Card City Nights is an adventure through a city filled with card-nuts and lunatics. Battle for the 8 legendary cards to enter the biggest competition this city has seen yet. CCN is not a traditional card-trading game. It's an adventure game with lots of funny characters and locations to find. There are no IAP's in this game. You collect booster packs by simply playing the adventure from start to finish.

100 Doors 2

I never understood why the original 100 Doors was so popular - it's a very basic puzzle game that relies on some staggering breaks in logic to solve its puzzles. But clearly a lot of players loved it, and they'll be happy to know that it's back with another one hundred puzzles for you to ponder. The graphics have been upgraded significantly, but it's still a relatively basic set of 2D sprites. 100 Doors 2 is free with no in-app purchases.

--

Sequel of the famous android puzzle game 100 Doors. New interesting puzzles in 100 Doors 2. Solve many puzzles, use items and use all potential of your mind to open the doors and escape from the rooms.

  • addictive puzzles for your smartphones;
  • great graphics and unique rooms design;
  • continuously updates with new rooms;
  • all the puzzles is free;

Word Puttz

After Words With Friends, I thought I'd seen every possible variation of the Scrabble tile game. The guys behind You Don't Know Jack are here to prove me wrong with Word Puttz, and extremely odd combination of Scrabble and miniature golf. You lay down your words on the golf course, making your way across the grid to drop that last tile in the hole. 70 levels will give you various traps, but the game isn't half as addictive as the cheese-a-riffic trailer.

--

From the makers of YOU DON’T KNOW JACK comes a word-tile game with balls. Download Word Puttz – the only octopus-hosted, word-tile/mini-golf mashup that you’ll ever need. Build crosswords until you reach the cup. It sounds easy but there’s a catch. Octoputtz, a spelling-obsessed octopus, owns a chain of mini-golf courses that are loaded with obstacles, challenges and bizarre surprises just waiting to trip you up. Collect stars, crush mollusks and unlock new worlds in this addictive, word-tile adventure game.

TA Little Red Riding Hood

We missed TA: Little Red Riding hood when it debuted on the Play Store, but now there's a free version for your gaming pleasure. The title plays a lot like They Need To Be Fed, with plenty Burton-inspired watercolor visuals fleshing out the 2D levels. You'll need solid twitch gaming skills and a little physics prowess to make it through. The free version includes ads, but it's a a reasonable one dollar purchase if you want them gone.

--

This is a twist of the classic story of The Little Red Riding Hood. This time she will face new dangers in her way through the woods, but be brave and you will succeed. The gameplay mechanics are very simple, just tap anywhere to jump to the next island. Try to collect apples, flowers and free your little bunny friends.

  • Intriguing story.
  • Very easy to play.
  • 60 challenging levels in gorgeous scenarios.
  • Many collectible items.

Deadman's Cross

Square Enix has decided to pair the tired genre of zombie shooter with the tired genre of card battle games to create one big mess of clichéd free-to-play undeath. You go out on your own to hunt zombies in a basic first-person shooter, then the zombies you kill become cards. For some reason. You fight real players and computer AI with your own personal zombie hoarded. The art is nice, but it's hard to think anyone will find many new ideas in this freemium title.

--

This game works only on Android version 3.0 and later. Deadman’s Cross is a zombie-themed collectible card battle RPG, and the latest creation from the same team that brought you the multimillion-download hit Guardian Cross. Sixteen years in the future, the zombie apocalypse is bitter reality as a rampant virus turns all it infects into the walking dead. How will you survive on the streets of New Livingston as Deadmen wander in search of living flesh?

Sorry, action movie fans, you don't get any points for guessing the inspiration behind There Can Be Only One. In this basic 2D brawler you take on other would-be immortals by killing them outright or pushing them off a giant stone pillar. Special attacks, power-ups, unlikely boss battles, and more than a little 8-bit humor flesh out this simple title, which spans 70 levels in total. Don't die: one loss means throwing away all your upgrades.

--

Pick up a magic sword on the ancient pillar of sacrifice and fight to become the 'Only One' left standing. Only One is an arena style sword fighting game where you grab a magic sword declaring yourself the 'Only One' and then proceed to push and destroy waves of enemies off a pillar in the sky. Defeat your enemies in grueling combat or take the easy way out and push them off the pillar to their deaths down below.

Helidroid 3 : 3D RC Helicopter

MH Production's latest take on the RC helicopter adds better graphics, more missions, and greater gameplay variety. It's your job to pilot one of those tricky little remote controlled choppers around various environments, using attachments to transport household goods, firing toy weapons, and generally living a little boy's perfect Saturday afternoon. In addition to various implausible mission scenarios, the game includes a free flight mode that lets you explore the house and environs.

--

Take the control of 3 little RC Helicopters in an entire house with garden and swimming pool. Accomplish a lot of variety of missions to become a real pilot. Control a "RC Fire" helicopter in order to take some water from the swimming pool and extinguish the fires. Use the "RC Skylift" helicopter to move objects with an electromagnet. Or choose the "RC Apache" helicopter to launch rockets and explode houses of cards.

The bottom of the sea is full of certified nightmare fuel creatures, and one of them is the angler fish. In BioGloom you use the fish's bioluminescent light to lure prey to their doom, Finding Nemo-style, while exploring a side-scrolling undersea environment. A justifiably dark aesthetic keeps things gloomy. The game is free with no in-app purchases.

--

BioGloom is a 2-D survival adventure game made by student team Rich Tomato from Qantm College in Brisbane, Australia. Similar to other titles, such as Osmos and Flow, comes BioGloom; a story about Lumen, an alien angler fish struggling for survival within Earth's deep oceans. Her journey will take her down into the depths where only darkness and monsters reside and Lumen's light lure is her only hope of survival.

Rakoo's Adventure

Good grief, this little endless runner is almost sickeningly cute. It's pretty basic for the genre - taps and swipes control your movement and abilities - but the colorful 2D graphics and whimsical environments should keep both kids and adults entertained. Multiple worlds, unlockable powers and costumes, and a lighthearted story (plus in-app purchases) await you in Namco's latest original mobile game.

--

Driven by his unrequited romantic desires, the charming but not very smart Rakoo leaves his cozy home in search of that special someone. A freshly picked flower, a goofy smile and off he goes. In his frantic race for survival, Rakoo embarks on a fantastic adventure in a world that’s as wild and beautiful as it is dangerous. Guide Rakoo through the perils and wonders that confront him with simple single-finger gameplay. Will Rakoo find the love of his dreams? His fate is in your hands.

Bad Roads 2

Mixing the endless runner/roller standard with indie gaming's favorite silhouette aesthetic, Bad Roads 2 takes the idea from Smuggle Truck and adds a coat of polish. Your job is to keep as much of your cargo in your vehicle as possible, while navigating the titular Bad Roads. There's an interesting local multiplayer mode that lets two people play on opposite sides of the same screen. Bad Roads 2 is free with ads, but there's a cheap premium version available as well.

--

Test your driving skill and anticipation in this simple, amusing and highly addictive game. And for even more funny moments, play with a friend using a two-player split screen inspired by the original «Bad Roads».! Ted is back and he takes you on worse roads than ever. Help him transport cages of ducks as far as possible all around the world (France, China, US.)... …But beware, if you drop all of Ted's cages, you will have to return to the starting point in an attempt to set a new record.

Glyph Quest

If you like match-3 games, old-school RPGs, and painfully twee takes on classical European engraving art, then Glyph Quest is for you. It's a re-interpretation of the Puzzle Quest idea: use your puzzle-solving abilities to fight monsters and advance the story. Impressive 2D art is included and the... hey, wait, does the Voodoo Hunter look like the Predator to anyone else? It's free to try, with an IAP upgrade for the full game.

--

IN A WORLD of fantasy and adventure. A land of quests and beasts. Of dungeons and big, fire-breathing lizards. One man stands alone against the hordes. YOU can be that man. In fact, YOU can be that woman, if you'd prefer. A powerful Wizard (or, Witch), well versed in the magic arts. Either way, conjure up elemental powers to smite your foes. Learn devastating combos to ruthlessly maximize your damage. Show them no mercy.

If Minecraft and Where's My Water had a baby, it would look like Helle. the game has a very basic mythological story, but the gist is that you'll need to dig and build to solve some basic physics puzzles. As with most Minecraft-inspired games, there's a heavy online multiplayer component, encouraging strangers to work together to solve the stages. You can also access community-designed maps.

--

Help Helle, the Goddess of the Sea, rescue Hyacinthus who has been transformed into a flower. Dig trenches to guide water to the hyacinth flower.

* Dynamic water fluid physics engine in 3D
* 20 challenging single-player puzzles
* Multiplayer: co-op building and raiding of player-designed maps

Platforms Unlimited

Platforms Unlimited comes from the same developer as Don't Run With A Plasma Sword, and includes the same attitude towards ads and in-app purchases (there aren't any). The game is a super-simple endless runner, but its procedural platforms and odd physics make it surprisingly difficult. You'll have to safely traverse the basic environment and avoid the singular enemies. The game's main mode is auto-generated, but new tailored levels are unlocked each day.

--

Platforms Unlimited is a procedural, minimalistic, zen, madly hard one-button endless platformer. Uninventing the genre to extirpate its core. An arcade game like in the old times when simplicity, fun and challenge ruled.

This is a premium game, without IAP or ads.

The Rules:

  • Minimalistic: Touch the screen to jump, touch longer to jump farther.
  • Avoid red enemies.
  • The score increases by 1 every second.
  • Collect coins for a bonus of 4 score points. Also used for rewards.
  • Collect power-ups for gameplay bonuses.

Circle Stop

Ever played one of those cheesy ticket games in the arcade, where the only objective is to stop an advancing light on the right bulb? This game is like that, plus rave music. All you've got to do in Circle Stop is tap the screen at the right moment, with higher scores awarded for more accurate stops. The ball reverses direction and performs a little light show after each successful hit. The music might make you think of a zen game, but the actual mechanics make it surprisingly challenging.

--

Circle Stop is an addictingly simple one-button game for touch devices, from New York City's newest three person indie game studio Twenty Percent Games. As the spinner goes round and round, tap anywhere to stop it. Hit anywhere on the target to score points. Hit the bullseye for even more points. Miss the target and get a strike; three strikes and you're out. But no matter what happens, there will be explosions of colors.

Power Game

I don't know if Power Game's claim to be "Ireland's best-selling board game" is true or not, but fans of simple games like Reversi and Go should be well served by its mechanics. The object is to use a series of gears and pegs to both build the biggest simple machine and outmaneuver your opponent. It's pretty basic, but it includes Facebook integration and online play. It's two bucks plus in-app purchases.... which aren't the best mix with a multiplayer title.

--

Do you like Chess, Want a challenge. Here is a game that is a lot easier to learn. Having originally begin designed in 1972, it has got a complete reboot for 2013 and Android. Ireland's best selling board game has come to Android phones and Tablets in HD. The game was a hit in my other countries, it was often called Turn. Selling in excess of 10 million copies worldwide, it was considered one of the best selling strategy board games.

Do you love to exploit young people, ruthlessly profit from other people's talent, and build an enormous empire on almost no skill or merit of your own? Then you've got what it takes to be a music producer! This management game has you fostering digital talent to rake in the profits, signing new artists, producing their songs, and managing their releases. It comes from UK Music, the British equivalent of the RIAA, so it's interesting if only for the decidedly whitewashed perspective - check out the authentic money-draining piracy angle. The game is free with no IAP.

Taking on the role of a producer and owner of a start-up label, you can select artists to nurture, record their songs, then support them with marketing and band management, ultimately attempting to succeed through the sales of your artist’s recordings. As you progress, your empire grows, allowing you to expand your studios and take on more artists to conquer the charts.

Patrick Kane's Winter Games

The title is called "Winter Games," but there's only one, so if you only watch the Olympics for the hockey then this one is for you. "Hockey giant Russia is hosting the majestic WINTER GAMES," says the app description, carefully omitting mentions of "Olympics" and "Sochi." The presentation is impressive, but the basic gameplay boils down to a series of mini-games with fancy graphics.

Team USA hockey star Patrick Kane invites you to take a shot at glory in the greatest hockey event of the year - PATRICK KANE’S WINTER GAMES. Dominate the ice across three net-busting game-modes; instant action FACE-OFF, exhilarating WINTER GAMES and the challenging RIVALS SERIES. Take on all of the internationally acclaimed national teams from around the World, with Patrick himself skating for Team USA. Perform faultless face-offs, slamming slap-shots and perfect poke-checks to bring down even the toughest of nations.

Dandelions Chain of Seeds

Most zen games walk a fine line between soothing, relaxing atmosphere and challenging gameplay. Dandelions Chain of Seeds doesn't - it's a pretty basic connect-the-dots game with a simple spin mechanic. The challenge comes from ever-larger stages with more intricate webs of seeds, but any seasoned puzzle game fan should be able to beat them all in a matter of time.

--

Dandelions: Chain of Seeds is an addictive ambient puzzle game where players connect dandelion seeds to solve the puzzles. The game features 3 flower worlds with a total of 60 levels of Zen. Experience beautifully surreal worlds and lose yourself in the hypnotic chimes. Enter your sea of tranquility, while you unlock new challenges and environments. Unwind by replaying levels using different puzzle-solving strategies.

This one is most definitely aimed at young children and not much else. If you'd like to give your kids some connect-the-dot puzzles without having to shell out $2.99 for a 100-page activity book, give this one a try - it's colorful, relatively simple, and has no ads or in-app purchases.

--

Designed with toddlers and pre-schoolers in mind, Dropdot provides a structured learning experience for children to learn their 123s and ABCs while also providing a creative drawing experience. Kids will love discovering the hidden images as they connect the dots. Each Dropdot puzzle pack has its own unique educational theme so your child can learn more about anything from rainforest animals to Chinese numbers.

Thief™ Companion Free

Another big triple-A console release, another companion app. This time Square is rebooting the much-loved Thief franchise, and while the jury's still out on the game itself, you can tide yourself over with this app until the release next week. This isn't really a companion app in the conventional sense, it's a wrapper for bonus content, like concept art and the game soundtrack. There's also some very basic strategy guide info from Prima. You may have to pay for some new content once the full game is released.

--

Expand your THIEF experience with the official Companion app. It allows players to check on many engaging items, such as characters bios, art, screenshots, concept arts and trailers. This is the ultimate way to discover everything about the THIEF universe. By upgrading the Thief Companion App in February 2014, get access to exclusive features:
