Google Play Music for Android TV gets a significant redesign

The Google Play Music experience on Android TV has a new update, and with it, a brand new look to show off.

As first reported by Android Police, the newest update for the Android TV Play Music app brings the version up to 8.1 and brings a noticeable redesign to the experience. The biggest changes will be immediately apparent to users of the app, like the fact that the big orange navigation bar on the left is now a bright white. The orange hue has now been relegated to accents around the app rather than the primary color palette.

The entirety of the app has tweaks and small changes across the board, including resizing some elements. There are more separate screens than in the previous iteration of the app, which means users will have to do a bit more clicking to get around, but navigation screens aren’t as cluttered as they used to be.

The Now Playing screen has been cleaned up as well, and the list of songs that are next in a playlist is easier to read. The background has been changed from the off-gray in the previous version of the app to a more eye-friendly deep black throughout the app. It doesn’t look like you’ll see artist images in the background of the Now Playing screen, though.

As far as overall functionality is concerned, all of that seems to be the same as it was. This update, while big in the visual scope, appears to be geared towards streamlining the user’s experience. It might take some getting used to for long-time fans of the Android TV app, but from the looks of it the changes are worthwhile.

How often do you use the Google Play Music app on your Android TV?
