Android Pay officially launches in the UK

Google’s getting in the announcements ahead of its Google I/O keynote, it seems. The company has announced today that its mobile payment service, Android Pay, is now officially supported in the United Kingdom.

An update to the Android Pay app, which you can download from the Play Store, means that the service is now able to be used by supported Android devices on the mainland. If your handset doesn’t offer a fingerprint reader for unlocking, you’ll need to add a PIN, a password, or a pattern to secure your handset and use Android Pay, or you won’t be able to use the mobile payment option.

If you want to use the service, you’ll need to install the aforementioned app, and then link your bank-supported Visa or MasterCard debit or credit card. Once that’s done, you should be able to use Android Pay to make your contactless payment dreams a reality.

No, Barclays doesn’t support Android Pay at this time.
