The ZUK Z2 Pro is Lenovos new Chinese flagship

Lenovo has been trying to get into the mobile game for years, but hasn’t had much success under its own brand name, which is better known for PCs. As such, Lenovo has been purchasing, restructuring and utilizing other brand names to delve into the market. The most well-known is Moto, formerly Motorola, which Lenovo has used to penetrate the US market. A new up-and-comer among Lenovo’s brands is ZUK, which has just announced its new Chinese flagship.

ZUK’s Z2 Pro packs a hefty list of specs, including a 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen that’s covered in 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 and features brightness settings between 1 and 500 nits. The screen also packs a 100% sRGB color gamut and is nearly borderless. The sum of all of those parts is a fantastic display.

Other specs include a 2.15GHz quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor, 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage, 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS and 1.34um sensor for better low-light pictures, front-facing 8-megapixel camera, 3100mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and USB-Type C charging port, front-facing fingerprint scanner with self-learning capabilities and support for wet fingers, dual nano SIM card slots and Cat 6 LTE support. One feature of note that’s missing is NFC support. NFC, however, isn’t commonly used for payments in China, so this isn’t a glaring oversight.

ZUK has designed the Z2 Pro to be a companion during fitness, and has added plenty of features to ensure that it’s up to the task. The device is built with a rollcage design that features a shock absorber between the back of the device and the mid-frame, which is 4.6mm thick and made of metal. Lenovo has also placed an optical heart rate sensor on the back of the device and has enabled the Z2 Pro to track uphill movements and running cadence for better fitness tracking. Finally, the Z2 Pro’s rear camera also doubles as a 15-level UV sensor, which allows you to better judge whether you need sunblock or not.

The device software is built on Android, but features ZUK’s heavy ZUI 2.0 overlay. Interestingly enough, the Z2 Pro can sync with iCloud, allowing iPhone users to easily transfer over to the Z2 Pro.

The ZUK Z2 Pro will be available for pre-order tomorrow and the fully-specced model is priced at 2,699 yuan, or roughly $420 USD. ZUK will also be releasing a variant with less storage and RAM on May 10, but hasn’t announced a price for that model. In any case, you’re still scoring a fantastic deal, particularly with the fully-specced model, which is cheaper than nearly every other flagship.

ZUK is launching the Z2 Pro in China, but may also be bringing it to Europe and the Middle East.
