Google’s new Live Cases let you customize your Nexus phone case with a photo or map

Remember Google Workshop, the Nexus case customization program that leaked way back in 2014? Well fast-forward to today and the program has finally been made official as Live Cases.

Live Cases will let you customize a snap-on case for your Nexus phone using one of your own photos or a piece of Google Maps. Simply choose the photo that you’d like to be applied to your case or pick a location from Google Maps and you can then tweak your selection with different filters and art styles.

In addition the customized case itself, each Live Case will come with a live wallpaper based on your personalization. Photos Live Cases will come with a customizable picture gallery for a live wallpaper, while Places Live Cases will have a stylized map of your current location.

Finally, Live Cases include a programmable shortcut button. This button can be used to access nearby places of interest, quickly launch the camera, or as a shortcut for your favorite app.

Live Cases cost $35 each and are available for the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6. The cases are made of polycarbonate, you can choose whether your case comes with a matte or glossy finish.

While $35 may seem a bit steep for a polycarbonate snap-on case, the fact that you can totally customize Live Cases helps to make the price a bit more palatable. A lot of folks love to personalize their phones with different cases, and with Live Cases, you can create a case for your Nexus phone that’s totally one-of-a-kind.

Will any of you be buying a Live Case?
