April Android distribution numbers show Marshmallow doubling in growth

Another month brings us another round of Android distribution numbers. The Android distribution numbers for March 2016 showed us the beginning of a trend for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with the latest Android version doubling in growth after a long haul of slow growth. April 2016 shows that trend continuing, with Marshmallow doubling its growth from 2.3% to 4.6%, showing great growth for the OS.

Other numbers are largely similar, with no one version having a large amount siphoned off. Lollipop shrunk slightly, though the numbers shifted between 5.0 and 5.1, with 5.0 shrinking by about half a percent, which seems to have moved to Android 5.1 and Android 6.0. Both KitKat and Jelly Bean continue to shrink, though at a slow pace. Ice Cream Sandwich, Gingerbread, and even Froyo all remained largely the same.

With more and more devices receiving updates to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, we should see that number continuing to grow. In the meantime, Google is already hard at work testing Android N, which is currently offered as a beta test to users willing to flash it to their devices. we’re not expecting to see Android N officially launched for a fair while, so hopefully manufacturers can catch up on their Marshmallow updates in the meantime.
