New screenshots released for Hipster Whale and Bandai Namco's Pac-Man 256

Back in May of this year we reported on a new Pac-Man game coming from Bandai Namco which is actually in partnership with Crossy Road developers Hipster Whale called Pac-Man 256. Hipster Whale will be putting their own twist onto the Pac-Man genre, meaning this won't be your typical dot eating game at all.

Pac-Man 256 will be an endless runner style of game and you will be trying to eat dots and avoid those ghosts who want to kill you of course, but there is one new threat you have to be aware of, and that is a relentless wave of pixelated 'gibberish' that is constantly threatening to overtake the entire screen. If you are a retro game fanatic, and used to follow the world of competitive arcade gameplay for world records, you should instantly recognize what this actually is.

Back when Pac-Man, the original arcade game that is, was around and being played competitively, when you arrived onto level 256, the game would end up getting corrupted. The game's maze on that level would literally be half-filled with this 'gibberish' due to a programming bug, essentially making the game unplayable at that point. Ironically, Pac-Man wasn't the only game to suffer from this bug back in the day.

Players will be playing Pac-Man 256 in an isometric perspective which could add a little bit of extra challenge to the game. The classic four ghosts are also here, but there are also some new and differently colored ones to be aware of and avoid.

Pac-Man 256 is still slated for release onto mobile devices sometime this Summer and will be free to download and play when it does arrive. Don't be surprised either if the same IAPs and in-game ad system show up in this game that they used in Crossy Roads. For now though, enjoy the new screenshots.
