Mortal Kombat X from NetherRealm has officially been released onto all platforms today except for one and that is Android. Last week iOS users and gamers on PC were able to start playing the game and today marks the release of the Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions which were delayed from last weeks launch on PC and iOS. As far as we were told, the plan was to release the game for all platforms at around the same time which has basically happened. So where is the Android version?
Update: April 14th, 2015 7:41am PST: Just a quick update regarding Ed Boon, who created Mortal Kombat, mentioned on Twitter in the past 24hrs that it could basically take up until two weeks for the Android version to arrive. In a tweet to another person who asked about the Android version release, Ed Boon replied that it would arrive possibly this week, or next week. Unfortunately this doesn't mean that the absolute latest it will be released is the end of next week. It just means they are hoping to have it out between now and then. It could be even longer.
In a short answer, we have no idea and trying to find out has been a slow process. We have been in touch with some people that are a part of the game's launch over the past week and a half and we are hoping to hear back from them on an idea regarding the Android version's release. Initially, the Android version was supposed to launch along with all the other versions and not separately down the road. So whether something happened that delayed the launch, or this is some sort of paid exclusive period that Apple seemed to have somehow managed to snag, we don't know. Let's hope that it isn't the latter. We honestly don't think it is but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened before in the past.
What we do know, thanks to the press release that went out today, that the Android version is 'coming soon', which likely means that it won'tbe today. We can always hope though! What we don't know yet is exactly when that is. It has to be pretty soon though as the commercials for Mortal Kombat X state that people can go download it off of iTune and Google Play for free, not that the game is 'coming soon' to Android. This is at the end of the commercial with a black background and could easily be changed to say coming soon to Android. So that fact it hasn't been changed is promising.
We will post an update as to when Mortal Kombat X will land on Google Play as soon as we hear back from Warner Bros / NetherRealm as to a release date. In the meantime, here is a video of all the fatalities in Mortal Kombat X. Hopefully this helps tide you over till the game's launch. Obviously this was not recorded from the Android version of Mortal Kombat X. Unfortunately, from everyone who has contacted us asking about when it is coming to Android, it looks like a lot of people feel a bit let down or shunned at with the Android version not being released and there being no update as to when it will be arriving.
Thanks to Josh C. for the tip regarding Ed Boon's Twitter post.
