Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 pre-order starts April 21, pricing set at $249.99
Remember the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3? Well if its promise of an affordable flagship with a reversible design piqued your interest last month, you’ll be glad to know that the phone is going up for preorder in less than two weeks.
The Idol 3 will go up for pre-order from Alcatel OneTouch’s website on April 21, with units expected to begin shipping in May. Pricing will be set at $249.99, which will get you the 5.5-inch version of the Idol 3.
As a quick refresher, the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3’s got a 5.5-inch 1920×1080 display, front-facing JBL Audio speakers, and a wide-angle camera on its face. Around back there’s a 13-megapixel shooter with a Sony IMX214 sensor and an f/2.0 aperture. And inside of the Idol 3’s shell lives a 1.7GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot, 4G LTE, and a 2910mAh battery.
On the software side of things, the Idol 3 is powered by Android 5.0.2. And one interesting feature of the device is that it’s got a fully reversible user interface, meaning that you can hold the phone right side up or upside down and the software will automatically adapt so that you can use it as normal.
While the Idol 3 may not be a super bleeding edge flagship Android phone, its 5.5-inch 1080p display, 13-megapixel rear camera, and 2910mAh battery are all pretty nice features for a smartphone that’s just $250 without a contract. And since it’s unlocked and works on both AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S., most GSM consumers — both prepaid and postpaid — ought to be able to just pop their SIM in and have the phone work with their service.
