Further confirmation of three-sided Galaxy Edge at MWC

We’ve already had a glimpse at what the dual-edged Galaxy S6 variant might look like (nothing like the image above), but case manufacturers have been wrong before. Today’s report comes via Bloomberg Business and the often cited “people with direct knowledge of the matter.”

Beyond the confirmation of existing information, like a 5.1-inch display, all-metal construction, top of the line Exynos processor and the existence of both a traditional screened Galaxy S6 alongside the dual-edged version, they had little to share. With multiple sources now showing the same info it seems like the spec leak from late January is likely dead on.

  • 64-bit eight-core 14nm CPU
  • which is 50 percent faster
  • 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a 577ppi density
  • 20 megapixel OIS rear camera
  • 5 megapixel f/1.8 front-facing camera
  • 32 / 64 / 128GB ROM
  • 2550mAh battery
  • Wireless charging
  • Quick charging
  • Metal and glass body
  • Gorilla Glass 4
  • Cat 6 LTE

As per usual, the spec list for the Galaxy S line is hardly to be called into question. It is a highlight real of the latest and greatest, but do they have what it takes this time around on the software side? The rumor that Samsung is lightening up on TouchWiz in favor of a near-stock experience is a familiar refrain from years past and one that certainly hasn’t always been borne out in the shipping products.

Moreover, a device like the Galaxy S6 Edge (or whatever the final name will be) clearly necessitates some extra software to properly utilize its unique features. Having spent some time with the Galaxy Note Edge, I can see the value in the extra real estate, although whether two edges will prove more useful than one isn’t clear to me at this point.

If you are considering the Galaxy S6, then what kind of functionality will you need to see out of the Galaxy S6 Edge to consider paying the likely $100 premium for those extra edges?
