Archos introduces affordable 4G smartphone and tablet

A few years ago, we couldn’t imagine recommending budget Android devices to anyone. Most budget devices were awful to say the least, with decent offerings still not being quite affordable. But in the last year, all that has quickly changed with some amazing and cheap devices being released. Now Archos wants to jump in on the action.

The Archos Diamond is a sub-£200 smartphone that packs some serious specs. It has a 5-inch full HD IPS display, an octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a 16-megapixel camera, and the all important 4G connectivity. For a ~$300 device, that’s pretty damn impressive.

The 80b Helium is Archos’s latest budget tablet. Its specs were not mentioned other than a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, but it does have 4G connectivity for under £150, which is around $230.

Of course, final judgement will have to be reserved after using the devices, but the prices seem pretty good for what Archos is offering. But we’re in a new year, and budget smartphone competition is just getting hotter. Any interest in these Archos devices? Leave a comment!
