Acer is launching two Chromebooks for education

Acer is launching two new Chromebooks aimed at educational settings, particularly high schools. The Chromebook C910 is a 15.6-inch Chromebook with a display resolution of 1920×1080 or 1366×768, depending on the configuration. Two Intel processor options are available, including a 5th-gen Intel Core i3-50005U processor or next-gen Intel Celeron 3205U Broadwell processor. Customers can choose to outfit the C910 with 2GB or 4GB of RAM, as well as having the choice of either a 16GB or 32GB SSD. Acer is promising up to eight hours of battery life, making the C910 ideal for making it through the school day.

The Chromebook C740 is a smaller 11.6-inch Chromebook that’s perfect for portability. The display has a resolution of 1366×768, and customers can choose between the same Intel processors listed above. RAM options of 2GB and 4GB are available, but the C740 only has the option of a 16GB SSD. The C740 adds an extra hour of battery life, lasting up to nine hours on a single charge.

Both Chromebooks are designed to be more durable than most laptops. They feature reinforced covers that can withstand just over 130 lbs. of pressure, and the corners are protected for drops of 18 inches without damage. Acer outfitted the Chromebooks with reinforced metal hinges that can survive more twisting and drops than standard plastic hinges. With the added features, both Chromebooks are safe for the classroom as well as the inevitable transport within a backpack.

Connectivity is fairly standard on the Chromebooks. Both feature Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port and a full-size SD card reader.

The Chromebook C740 begins at $259.99 and the larger C910 begins at $299.99. Sales will open in February.

With the additional features that Acer has included, as well as the affordable prices, we expect the new Chromebooks to be a popular option for many high schools. Providing students with technology in education is a priority for high schools, but the high cost often hinders the process. Affordable, durable options like these Chromebooks pave the way for furthering the education of students.

What do you think of these new education-focused Chromebooks?
