Sony’s Z Ultra GPe getting update to Android 5.0 Lollipop this week

Android 5.0 Lollipop is one of the biggest updates for the Android platform in quite some time, with plenty of exciting additions and changes. Thankfully, manufacturers have been quick about updating some of their handsets.

For owners of the Z Ultra Google Play edition from Sony, the wait for Android 5.0 Lollipop is coming to an end soon. The company has announced that the update to the newest version of Android has begun its rollout this week. Sony is quick to note that timing will vary by region, as these sorts of things do, but for anyone that owns the handset, the update should be arriving shortly.

Sony also points out the new additions that owners can look forward to, like Material design, a change to the lock screen and the notifications shared on it, better battery life, multiuser accounts and “faster slicker performance.”

The manufacturer has also been kind enough to post the source code and binary files for the custom ROM developers out there to “build AOSP Lollipop for Xperia Z Ultra devices with an unlocked boot loader.” Finally, Sony also says that it will be upgrading the entire Xperia Z series of handsets to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the near future, beginning in the early part of 2015.
