Samsung rumored to cut Galaxy Alpha, replace it with Galaxy A5

Samsung’s metal-trimmed Galaxy Alpha launched to a fair amount of hype, but it appears that the company is now looking to trim its line-up, and the Galaxy Alpha will be the first to go. A report from ET News in Korea states that Samsung will discontinue the Galaxy Alpha as soon as its current inventory runs out. Its metal-clad cousin, the Galaxy A5, will take its place as Samsung’s flagship for the mid-range Android market.

Samsung’s Galaxy A5 is priced at $360 USD and has been released in China and Taiwan. The specs, while mid-range, are surprisingly good for such a low-priced device. They include a 5-inch Super AMOLED 720p dislay, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and a 13-megapixel camera. The Galaxy A5, while similar to the Galaxy Alpha, allows Samsung to produce a high-quality metal device at a price point that allows it to grab plenty of buyers in the mid-range market. Samsung is said to launch the Galaxy A5 in South Korea during January or February.
