Nexus Player and Nexus 9 officially launch on Google Play
The moment you’ve all been waiting for is finally here: the Nexus Player and HTC Nexus 9 have both officially launched in the Google Play web store starting at $99 and $399, respectively.
The Nexus Player, for those of you that need refreshing, is the first Android TV device to make it to retail. For $99, you get a Nexus Player unit and a remote with voice control. The ASUS-branded game controller will cost an extra $39 if you want the complete Google Cast, Android TV and game console experience. As of right now the Nexus Player is marked as leaving Google’s warehouse in 2 to 3 weeks after payment, but that time may change for the better or worse.
The Nexus 9 is also officially available today, but in limited configurations. The 16GB black WiFi only Nexus 9 is $399 and will ship in 1 to 2 business days, while the 32GB black model with LTE is “coming soon.” In fact, quite a few on the configurations for the Nexus 9 are either coming soon or, when selected, force a prompt that makes you choose an entirely different model. Aside from the black 16GB WiFi only model, you can only buy a white 16GB, white 32GB (for $479) or black 32GB today. All of those ship in 1 to 2 business days. If you only had an interest in the black WiFi only model, Best Buy has both the 16GB and 32GB models in stock for same day pickup.
We have more coverage on the Nexus Player and Nexus 9 coming up in the next few days, but for now let us know if you plan on picking up any of Google’s latest Nexus devices in the comments below.
