LG and Google strike big patent cross-licensing agreement

After signing a patent cross-licensing deal with Samsung earlier this year, Google has now struck a deal with another major Android manufacturer.

LG and Google have agreed to a “long-term” patent cross-licensing deal that includes their existing patents as well as any that are filed in the next 10 years. The patents in question cover “a broad range of products and technologies.” Allen Lo, deputy general counsel for patents at Google, had this to say on the deal:

We’re pleased to enter into this agreement with a leading global technology company like LG. By working together on cross-licenses like this, companies can focus on bringing great products and services to consumers around the world.

This agreement will enable LG and Google to use one another’s technology in future products, which means both of those companies win and so do we. Here’s to hoping that we continue to see more patent agreements and fewer patent lawsuits going forward.
