Screenshot Reveals Google Now’s Material Design Future
Over the past several months, we’ve seen quite a few Google applications receive a Material Design makeover. This new UI paradigm first began showing its head far before its official unveiling alongside Android L in June of this year, starting with the Google+ application. Since then, we’ve seen several other Google apps such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides receive Material Design makeovers. And in this past week, we even saw Material Design updates to Chrome Stable and Google+.
What’s one extremely prominent Google app that to date has been left out of the Material Design fun? Google Now. Now thanks to a presumably inadvertent slip, we may have our first glimpse at what Google Now will look like in a future Material Design update.
The screenshot that you see above comes from the Twitter account of Googler Michael OHerlihy. Based on how close we are to the official launch of Android L, it’s highly likely that this Google Now update will officially pop up at around the same time. It’s unclear as to whether this new version will be restricted to users running Google’s latest OS or if it will be available to all, but given Google’s efforts to alleviate fragmentation by removing key experience apps from Android itself, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s available for all.
Hopefully the above screenshot is real and Android L and this forthcoming update make their way to our Android devices soon. What are your thoughts on Google’s Material Design-ification? Let us know in the comments below!
