T-Mobile: We’ll beat the other carriers’ trade-in offers for your mobile hardware

Looking for a way to snag a Galaxy Note 4, Moto X (2014) or Xperia Z3 on the cheap? If you’ve got an existing smartphone or tablet that you’re willing to trade in, then T-Mobile would like to have a chat with you.

T-Mobile announced this morning that it plans to offer the best trade-in values on mobile hardware of all the major U.S. carriers. Starting September 17, T-Mobile will “track the market” every day to make sure that it’s got the best trade-in values around. If you get a better trade-in offer from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon, T-Mo will give you the difference as well as a $50 credit, both of which go toward your bill.

To take advantage of the promo, you need to call T-Mobile or visit its website within seven days of trading your device in. You’ll then tell T-Mo where and when you got the offer and how much it was for. You’ll then get the different and an additional $50 applied to your bill within two to three bill cycles.

T-Mobile’s trade-in promo begins September 17 and will run for a “limited time.” While you’ll almost certainly get a better value for your device by going through Craigslist or eBay, trading a device in to T-Mo can be a much easier and faster experience, so that could be a route to consider if you just want to be rid of your existing hardware and upgrade to the new hotness as quickly as possible.

Do you sell your devices to a carrier or through Craigslist/eBay when it’s time to upgrade? Or do you just hold on to your hardware so that you’ve got a backup?
