Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 official, boasts 6-inch 720p HD display, 8MP camera and more

Last year, Samsung unleashed a pair of giant smartphones onto the market, both of which fell into the Galaxy Mega lineup. Now, the manufacturer has decided to go ahead and announce the Galaxy Mega 5.8′s followup, while also increasing the display size for good measure.

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Mega 2, unveiling the successor via one of their own sites. The new design looks similar to a (very) large Galaxy S device, so there’s no real surprise there. The physical Home button, flanked by a Menu and Back button. Just above those buttons, there’s a new 6-inch 720p HD display. Under the hood you’ll find a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, with 16GB of built-in storage and a microSD card slot for extra storage options. There’s an 8-megapixel camera on the back, with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter.

As far as a release date goes, it’s still up in the air when (or if) the new member of the Galaxy Mega family will launch in the United States. The previous generation handset did launch for AT&T, though, so there does seem like a possibility. As for other areas on the globe, the Galaxy Mega 2 will be launching soon.
