Have all the News at Your Fingertips with VOS News

VOS news

There are several aspects in our daily lives and routines that have pretty much cemented the most basic functionality of our mobile devices. These defining traits are things that we can essentially not live without and we expect to get out of a device, regardless of cost or operating system. What we know today as smartphones were originally intended for the always busy, always on the move, businessman. Said type of individual hardly ever gets a chance to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee while reading the latest headlines on the newspaper, so solutions must be present to accommodate this little guilty pleasure into the everyday routine. There are a plethora of options out there for smartphones, including AOSP’s very own “News and Weather” app. However, the interface is not exactly good and while simple, it lacks—well, everything. If you are in search of a news reader that gives you freedom to choose your news without having to fall back to the likes of Flipboard, you might want to check out XDA Forum Member b7898‘s creation.

VOS News is a news app that somewhat resembles HTC’s Blinkfeed, but with a twist. This seemingly ordinary news reader is also a social community of its own, which requires no registration at all. The app will allow you to choose from feeds from around the world (40 countries and counting) on top of various interest sites. Once the app is on your device, and you start reading the news, you will have the opportunity to become social by doing what Redditors love to do the most. No, not flaming n00bs–upvoting and downvoting news and articles. It also gives you the ability to share, bookmark, and pretty much do everything you can and want to do once you get to an interesting story. VOS features a scoring system as well, which will vary based on your contribution within the community (participation in polls, etc).

The dev is looking for feedback on this brand new app. Please provide whatever you can come up with and if you happen to come across a bug, please report it so that the dev can squash it. Have fun. You can find more information in the VOS News thread.
