You can now make Google Voice calls through Hangouts — but only from the Google Voice site

The merging of Google Voice and Hangouts isn't exactly what we'd call a fast-mover, but we're again seeing some progress. Google's Alex Wiesen last night mentioned that you can now make a call with Google Voice through Hangouts — but so far only from the Google Voice site. And, sure enough, you can.

It's as simple as going to Google.com/voice, typing in the number you want to call, then changing the "Phone to call with" box to "Hangouts." Missing still is support for the Chrome Widget, but we'd probably expect that to die off anyway at some point. And it's not out of left-field to expect this option to show up in the proper Hangouts extension in the future.

Now can we talk about a proper native Hangouts desktop app, perhaps?
