Xiaomi Mi 4 brings top-shelf specs and steel frame for under $350

Xiaomi has launched its 2014 flagship, the Mi 4, for a bargain price of just $320. The Xiaomi Mi 4 features all the specs expected from a high-end Android phone, puts them in a well-designed package and sells it for the ridiculously low price of $320. The only real question is, where do we sign up to get one? The Mi 4′s specs list consists of the following:

  • 5-inch 1080p display
  • 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16GB/64GB storage
  • 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture
  • 8-megapixel front-facing camera
  • IR Blaster
  • LTE support
  • 3,080mAh battery

Xiaomi has managed to create another incredible phone for a low price. Software details weren’t mentioned, but like previous Xiaomi phones, we expect that it runs MIUI on top of Android 4.4 KitKat. The design of the phone is highlighted as the Mi 4 features a steel frame and a swappable backplate. The standard back is plastic, but options will be available in all sorts of different colors and textures including bamboo, leather, cloth, wood and stone (though we suspect that this is just a stone texture rather than actual stone).

Xiaomi Mi 4 Back

Unfortunately, the Xiaomi Mi 4 currently looks like it’ll be a Chinese exclusive. While Xiaomi representatives haven’t ruled out global availability, details were only given about a Chinese release. In China, the Mi 4 will be available on July 29 for $320 USD for the 16GB version and about $400 USD for the 64GB version. Alongside the Mi 4, the Mi Band will also launch for $13 USD. The Mi Band is a fitness band that performs all the usual functions of a fitness tracker while also unlocking your phone when in close proximity. Both devices are expected to sell extravagantly well in their homeland of China.
