Razer, the gaming company that makes specialized hardware, like gaming specific laptops or related accessories like backlit keyboards and ambidextrous mice, is venturing into the realm of Android TV by announcing their plans to to release what they call a "micro-console".

Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO of Razer describes the unit as follows: “Built on Google’s incredible Android TV platform, the Razer micro-console incorporates not only hardcore and casual gaming, but music, movies and other entertainment and social applications, all on an affordable system.” With Google already having shown some of the platform's gaming capabilities, it's encouraging to see their announcement partners declaring their intentions as well. In Razer's case, they intend to apply  "experience in designing high-performance gaming systems, controllers, keyboards and mice" and use that to "contribute beneficially to the device development".

Razer intends to have the same team that has designed their laptops, PCs, and gaming tablets design the hardware for the  micro-console as well. On the software side, they intend to release an app that will allow any Android tablet or smartphone to be able to navigate their "console of the future". Razer has yet to announce any pricing, and only stated that this fall is when they intend to release the unit.
