Amazon Launches Sunday Delivery In 15 New Cities Following Successful Tests In NYC And LA

When a product on Amazon says it takes two days to arrives, Sunday typically doesn't count. Hey, that's no jab against the company, as this is standard practice in the shipping industry. But now Amazon is expanding Sunday delivery to fifteen cities, giving millions of customers the chance to see this new delivery date show up at checkout.

The lucky metropolitan areas are as follows:

  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Lexington, KY
  • Louisville, KY
  • New Orleans, LA
  • Shreveport, LA
  • Cincinnati, OH
  • Columbus, OH
  • Oklahoma City, OK
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • Austin, TX
  • College Station, TX
  • Dallas, TX
  • Houston, TX
  • San Antonio, TX
  • Waco, TX

The cities are concentrated in only a handful of states, with six of them situated in Texas alone. Kentucky, Louisiana, and Ohio each find two of their most densely populated areas supported; while Indiana, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania each appear with one. These areas all join New York City and Los Angeles, where Amazon has tested Sunday delivery since November of 2013.

Amazon and the US Postal Service plan to roll out Sunday delivery to more areas over the course of the year. This news follows yesterday's app update providing the ability to sign into multiple Amazon mobile apps are once, making throwing money at the company even more convenient. Gosh, Amazon. You make it so hard to say no.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8, 2014-- Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced today that customers in 15 additional cities are eligible for Sunday delivery. In addition to the Los Angeles and New York metro areas where Sunday delivery launched in November 2013, Amazon customers in the following locations are now receiving deliveries on Sunday:

  • Austin, Texas
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • College Station, Texas
  • Columbus, Ohio
  • Dallas, Texas
  • Houston, Texas
  • Indianapolis, Ind.
  • Lexington, Ky.
  • Louisville, Ky.
  • New Orleans, La.
  • Oklahoma City, Okla.
  • Philadelphia, Pa.
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • Shreveport, La.
  • Waco, Texas

“So far, the most common items delivered on Sunday include baby supplies such as newborn apparel, books and toys—Sunday delivery is clearly crossing errands off the weekend to-do list,” said Mike Roth, Amazon’s vice president of North America operations. “We know our Amazon customers love the convenience of everyday delivery, and we’re excited to be offering Sunday delivery in more cities across the U.S.”

Since Sunday delivery launched, millions of packages have been delivered on Sunday to Amazon customers. Amazon and the U.S. Postal Service plan to continue to roll out Sunday delivery to a large portion of the U.S. population this year.

To participate, Amazon customers can simply add any of the millions of eligible items to their cart and see the Sunday delivery promise at checkout when available in their region.
