Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom to be called ‘Galaxy K,’ will be announced April 29

The Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom wasn’t a particularly amazing device, but it was a very interesting concept. The device traded high-end features for a beefy camera setup with a 10x optical zoom lens, 16-megapixel sensor and a xenon flash, making it a great cameraphone with mid-range specs. It was a great tradeoff for some, but that giant camera sticking out of the back wasn’t pretty or comfortable.

This year, things will be a little different. The Galaxy S5 zoom will be rebranded to Galaxy K and will have a few changes. First and foremost, it will feature a 20-megapixel sensor while retaining the a 10x optical zoom lens and xenon flash found on its predecessor. This setup will not stick out as much as it did on the S4 zoom, so it’ll be a more compact package.

Other rumored Galaxy S5 zoom specs include a 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, a hexacore Exynos processor (two 1.5GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores), 2GB of RAM, a 2-megapixel front facing camera and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It’s definitely mid-range, but that’s not a bad thing.

The Galaxy S5 zoom/Galaxy K will be unveiled on April 29 in Singapore at the Red Dot Design Museum. This will be a new line of devices, which makes us hope that we may see the top-of-the-line Galaxy F sometime soon as well. Hey, we can dream, can’t we?

Would you consider getting a Galaxy K? Tell us in the comments!
