LG G3 name, launch window confirmed by LG

We’ve gotten quite a few hints about the LG G3 in recent weeks, including its expected screen resolution, a look at its flatter UI and even a peek at its rear-mounted buttons. Today the G3 is back in the news, but this time the source of the information is a bit more official than those in the past.

As part of its first quarter 2014 earnings announcement, LG today confirmed the name “G3” and also revealed that the device is expected to arrive sometime in the second quarter. The relevant quote is as follows:

“Higher revenues are expected in the second quarter with the release of the flagship LG G3 smartphone and wider roll-out of the mass-tier L Series III.”

While LG is known for trickling out details of its new flagship phones ahead of their actual debuts, it’s still interesting to see the company confirm both the name and launch window of its next big device in its Q1 2014 earnings. Finer details like the G3’s rumored 2560×1440 display and refreshed UI are still unconfirmed, but the good news is that if LG sticks to its timeline, all may be revealed by the end of June.

LG also announced today that it shipped a total of 12.3 million smartphones in Q1 2014, a growth of 19 percent from the year-ago quarter. That also makes up around 75 percent of all LG phones shipped during the quarter.
