Google may open Glass Explorer program to all U.S. residents for one day [UPDATED]

Miss out on your chance to get Google Glass the past couple of times Google extended invitations to its Explorer program? Well if some newly-leaked documents are to be believed, you may soon be able to finally get a unit of your own with minimal effort.

Documents leaked by The Verge suggest that Google may open its Glass Explorer program up to all US residents in the near future. The offer will purportedly only be available for one day, and anyone interested in getting Glass will still need to drop $1,500 for the device. Google will reportedly include either a sunglass shade or prescription frame with each purchase.

The Glass Explorer program was initially only open to developers who attended Google I/O 2012. Since then, though, Google has opened the program up to more users to grow its testing. While this leaked Glass promo is still a rumor for now, it’d be a smart move for Google because it would allow the company to quickly expand the Glass Explorer program testing ahead of the public Glass launch, which is slated to happen later in 2014.

UPDATE: Google has confirmed that anyone in the U.S. will be able to become a Glass Explorer on Tuesday, April 15. Sales will begin at 6:00 a.m. PDT/9:00 a.m. EDT, and the units will be priced at $1,500 plus tax and include a free shade or frame. Google says that there will be a limited number of openings, so you’d best get up early.
