Gold HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5 flaunted by T-Mobile CEO John Legere

Apparently when you’re the CEO of a major wireless carrier, device makers love to give you gold phones.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere took to Twitter yesterday to show off a 24kt gold-plated HTC One (M8) that he’d received from HTC. The unit looks similar to the gold One (M7) that HTC made in limited quantities last year.

Not wanting to be outdone by HTC, Samsung later tried to one-up its competitor by giving Legere a gold Galaxy S5. Details on the device are pretty limited, but we can see in the photo that it’s awfully shiny, just like you’d expect a gold phone to be.

HTC never actually offered its gold-plated One (M7) to the public, and I wouldn’t be surprised if neither of these new golden handsets end up being sold to consumers either. The gold One (M7) was given away as part of a sweepstakes, though, so here’s to hoping that we see something similar from HTC or Samsung with the One (M8) and Galaxy S5. And hey, even if we don’t, at least we can live vicariously through Legere and his photos.

Which gold phone do you prefer? The HTC One (M8) or Samsung Galaxy S5?
