By the numbers: HTC One (M8)’s head start over the Samsung Galaxy S5

After a month and a half of waiting, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has finally been released. Samsung’s is got quite a bit of media attention yesterday, but let’s not forget that HTC has quite a compelling alternative this year which could eat into Samsung’s projected sales numbers for its flagship device.

The HTC One (M8) went on sale on March 25, but it was only available in Verizon retails stores until this week. Those who wanted to purchase the phone from Sprint and AT&T were able to do so online, but the general public now has the opportunity to see HTC’s and Samsung’s new toys and compare them side-by-side.

The one thing we are wondering is how much of a head start the HTC One (M8) actually has over the Samsung Galaxy S5.  HTC has not released any sale figures yet, so we decided to jump into the web analytics numbers for Android and Me to see is we could track down the HTC One (M8). The HTC One (M8) was not called out by name until April 8, but our stats show that the device is off to a good start, sitting in 17th place and accounting for 0.84% of all mobile device’s accessing our site over the past three days.

0.84% may not sound like a lot, but it’s three times higher than the traffic we get from the HTC Droid DNA  - a phone that’s been available through Verizon for about a year and a half. In the end, we expect the Samsung Galaxy S5 to surpass the HTC One (M8), so we’ll be coming back to our numbers on a regular basis to give you a look at how both devices are performing.
