AT&T, Verizon hid Download Booster on Galaxy S5, but it can be partially enabled

Carriers have a knack for removing features we actually want in smartphone. Verizon removed a seemingly harmless Blocking Mode from a few Samsung devices without any given reason, forcing people to come up with workarounds or just straight up root their device. The situation this time around is similar, though more carriers have jumped in on it. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint have all removed the Download Booster feature from the new Samsung Galaxy S5.

When it comes to AT&T and Verizon, it’s actually not removed but hidden. Apparently, the feature can be brought up using a third party launcher to create a shortcut to the hidden feature. It can then be enabled and used, though to what extent is unknown. Some report that it helps with SpeedTests and Play Store downloads, though it may not properly enable during file downloads. For full functionality, root would be needed to fully enable it, though there is no root exploit for the devices yet.

Though it’s not a sure bet, it’s great that it can at least be partially used without needing to root and modify the device. Though the feature shouldn’t have been removed in the first place, this is the next best option. Give the method a try and tell us how it works for you in the comments!
